Character explanation

This post is all OOC to explain who Amelia Ronsam is and where she comes from.

Background on Kairn (Amelia's world)
Kairn is a low-magic world, with technology levels at approximately the same place as the European Renaissance (their most advanced weapons are cannons, no guns yet). Old stories tell of wizards, who old kings tried to control, and how they left society to avoid being used as pawns in the wars of countries. No living person has ever seen someone do magic or met any wizards. By now, they're all believed be folk tales.

The city that Amelia lives in, Masarra, is a beautiful coastal city of about 15,000 people. It has a bustling port, a large market district, and is generally considered a main hub of trade in the country its settled in, Etras. The city is ruled by a Duke, who answers to a king in the capital city some long distance away. The city is fairly progressive for its time, offering the same rights to all citizens, be they elf, dwarf, human, or dragonborn (half-dragon). Summers are hot, but winters are mild, due to the large sea the city resides on.

Backstory
Amelia is the eldest of four children and heir to the Ronsam family's herb and spice trading business. Although her family is wealthy by society's standards, she found herself displeased with her family's lot in life early on. Scorned by classes both above and below, Amelia decided to fix all of that by obtaining a noble title for her family. At the young age of 13, she began doing back alley work at night for locals to gather favors, particularly from the local politicians and lesser nobles, asking them to vouch for her family when the time came to get the title. If no favors could be had, she took money for her time and began saving to buy the title, if that's what it came to.

With the help of a small group of local men and women, Amelia gained some notoriety in her home city of Masarra through the group's deeds. In time, she was awarded two commendations by the Duke of Masarra for her efforts that bettered the city. When the group she had been working with went on hiatus, she took her chance and asked the Duke of Masarra to name her father a baron. The Duke granted the title based on her deeds and put a condition on the title that she must always be ready to answer his call for aid. Since then, she has been working tirelessly to fill her father's shoes as head of the family business to allow her family the chance to rest and enjoy the gift she has given.

Notes
- Amelia comes from a DM created 4th Edition D&D campaign. None of the technologies that everyone is walking around with today (2015) are going to make sense until they're properly explained.
- Magic is something that doesn't really exist in the world Amelia comes from. She's seen monsters and demons, as well as things she can't explain, but she still firmly believes magic isn't real.
- Family comes before all else for Amelia. If they are in danger, she will stop at nothing to protect them.
- Amelia is a rogue, with all the natural D&D related talents that implies.
