[Duplicity] IC Inbox

[Amelia's device is ready for messages. Send away as you will.
Upon reaching her inbox, there's a long pause. And then, when the caller might think this is some prank or the inbox is improperly set up, a soft voice speaks:]
"Leave your message. We'll speak later."

That sounds like a decent way to sleep, if one must. Closure with things going on back home is rare for those of us here. I've not asked before now as it wasn't my place, but if you wish to talk of home, know you have my ear. It's good to hear about worlds more like to mine than Duplicity.
Though... now that you are well again, I have a question to ask. A favor, if you need it to be one. [This seems a terrible time to ask, but if she didn't, would she really be the Queen of Bad Timing and Decisions?]
Aloïs' natal day is coming. I have a gift for him already, but I'd like something more akin to what we're used to from home to offer with it. You bake, yes? I've heard and seen you mention it before. Do you know how to make something like what one could find on a table from your home?

[Or if he should tell her of his fate...maybe not. Besides, there's this convenient request in front of him now and he'd much rather indulge that.]
I certainly can. Honey cakes with almonds or pecans if he's a preference? Maybe some figs or fig jam, if that appeals.

Dreams, you can make honey cakes? It's been months since we've seen anything like that. Pecans would be best, I think.
What supplies do you need for them? I can collect them and bring them to you at Marzipan Terrace. Take Little Thunder out for a bit while you work. [And then relentlessly ask him questions, of course.]

But that's fine, I can do honey cakes with pecans.
I've got most of what I need here but the pecans themselves.

I would gladly keep you company while you work, though. Choose a time and day and I'll arrive with pecans in hand - and anything else you or Little Thunder might want after your unexpected absence for the better part of a week.
[Amelia? Spoil her brats? Of course she will.]

What day is his birth specifically? Could make it up to three days in advance to keep it freshest.
But no, I'm alright, thank you Amelia. Just need a bit of time to get my head back on, but I'm doing fine otherwise.
[Which isn't a lie, at least. It was complicated, but not overwhelming.]

The eighteenth of this month. The closer to his natal day we can bake, the better. I would love to give him fresh treats. Things have been
[No. No she won't finish that though, thanks.]
I want to make sure the day is a good one for him. He deserves a good day after recent events.
[What a dodge of her part in all this that is. She's going to take it, though.]

[He reads over the message a couple times before deciding a push is in order. Something small to start.]
Did something happen?

Everything is fine.
What day works best for baking for you?

I would have thought lying would be easier through text

Answer my question, please.

Let it be. I'll have more to say in person.
[Much of which will be forms of "everything's fine" but it still counts.]

[He's sure she's going to make it difficult, but he'll just have to make sure his usual tools are sharp that day.]
The 17th will be fine

I'll be there the afternoon of the 17th with the pecans.
[There's a few minutes pause before she adds:] We'll talk then.
