He's not going to argue with her about how he was raised. The childhood he lived had its own difficulties, but that's not something he much desires to think about. Besides which, it's not a competition and he doesn't want to turn it into one.

"But I've heard my sister and uncle talk. I've seen the lengths my protectors have gone to. They need each other. This is your burden because you've decided it to be. You should treat them with the respect they deserve and let them make their own choices. Maybe they could only help you by offering you some small supplies, or giving you emotional support. But it would be as much or as little as they wanted. Their choice, their free will."
