[Aloïs' message arrives sometime in the early evening, and after the rogue's surreal meeting with a man who shares his face. He doesn't know how ready Amelia might be to receive what he has to tell her (she hasn't been ready for much recently, in his estimation) but he needs her help with this. He needs the old Amelia he can trust with anything, and who always seems to have sound counsel for problems that only get twisted up in his own head when he's left to his own devices.

Please let this, at least, be normal, he thinks. In a moment when he genuinely needs the partnership and unspoken understanding they've spent years building.

It takes some wrangling with his device, but Aloïs eventually he manages to figure out how to send a call Amelia's way.]

I would like to see her regularly, if possible. We've developed a routine with my visits, and she's beginning to learn commands and tricks. Nothing extravagant, but I hope you'll find her behavior more amenable to suggestion after my work with her.

It's not just to send them a message, though that's a handy thing he'll never not be grateful for after being left in the dark so many times without this instant communication method in Thedas, but to check and see if they're still in the city at all.

Alois' name is no longer listed.

He looks immediately for Amelia instead, losing some tension in his shoulders when he finds her easily but none of the ache of sympathy.

Amelia's been ignoring the truth since she woke.

She hadn't checked to see if Aloïs was in when she got home from work, nor if he'd already left when she got up hours later. He wasn't in the house when she called, even though his boots remained by the door. His things were in his room, his knives left in various places waiting for sharpening or to be put into belts. Everything that he'd done or made for himself in Duplicity was still here, down to the latest, unfinished wood project he'd been carving at a table in the kitchen.

The truth is a letter pinned to a cutting board hanging on the wall in the kitchen with the feather knife she gave Aloïs at Candleglow. The only way it got there is if she opened it, read it, and slammed it there by hand. She refuses to believe it.
